Valais at Grateful Acres
Valais Blacknose Sheep are known as the Cutest Sheep in the World. They originate from the Valais region of Switzerland where they are raised as a dual purpose breed for wool and meat. They are known for being a hardy breed that grazes the steep, rocky slopes of the Swiss Alps. Their wool is long and coarse with a wonderful crimp. Fiber from adult sheep averages 38 microns, while fiber from lambs averages 28-30 microns. Their wool is excellent for rug making and felting. The long staple length of their wool makes it fantastic for spinning. The most amazing thing about this breed is their personality. Unlike most sheep, Valais Blacknose Sheep love to interact with people, making them very dog-like and are very trainable. They enjoy being petted and scratched.
